Entering the Paris 2024 Olympic Marathon Lottery
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris, and for the first time, the public will be given an opportunity to enter the race
We are still over a year away from the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, but as a runner, it’s exciting to see the that their marathon will be open to the public. While my chances of winning the event are zero, it would be an honor to say I lost to Eliud Kipchoge (or any other elites running that day). With only 20,024 spots available, I’m pretty sure this will be a very hard race to get into - but I’m going to try my luck at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I’ve never been to Paris, but getting selected for this would make for one great excuse for a vacation and a race.
There are a few options to enter this lottery, but the path I took is with Club Paris 2024. With this option, you sign up for an account and connect your favorite health app with their system. As workouts are completed, they get tracked on Club Paris 2024 which will then earn you points. The goal is to earn 100,000 points before 2024 to become eligible for their lottery. If you do register with this approach, you can use my sponsorship code DGJ74c. This will earn both of us some points - every little bit counts, right?
It’s unclear on how points from workouts will be calculated, but after signing up, you will need to connect with their Sports Club Paris site which would enable you to connect to Garmin, Coros, and a bunch of other fitness tracking apps. If you’re not fluent in French, be sure to use a browser translator to make this a bit easier to navigate. I was not able to find an English option, but can only assume that they will offer localized options eventually.
For iPhone and Apple Watch users, they offer the Marathon Pour Tous Paris 2024 app where you can manage your account and connect with Apple Health to track your workouts as well. Managing your other connections with Garmin, Coros, and others is also possible within their app, which does offer an English option for those that may struggle with the French website. The app did default to French for me, but once you’ve logged in, your settings page has an option to change to English.
The eligible workouts also seem limited. Today, I did a strength workout which earned me zero points. However, their site does say the following - “Run after the bus, walk home from work, cycle on Sundays, do your morning yoga...to earn points on the Club.” I’ve got a 4-mile run scheduled for tomorrow, so hopefully, that earns me a few points.
In addition to this, there are two other methods of entry, both of which are based on completing challenges to gain a lottery ticket. These options are:
Team Orange Running - follow them on Instagram to learn more about their challenges to gain a lottery entry
Mass Participation Marathon app - participants complete challenges to gain eligibility into the 2024 Olympic Marathon lottery
I’m very excited about this opportunity and will try my luck to be part of this event. How about yourself - will you be trying to earn your lottery entry to this event? You can learn more about Paris 2024’s Olympic Marathon on their site. Thanks for reading!
